Gout

Acute Gout

Painful, swollen, burning joint?

You may be experiencing symptoms of Gout!

Gout, also referred to as gouty arthritis, is an inflammatory condition that affects 3 to 5 million people in the United States.

Most individuals do not know they are developing gout until they experience a flare of symptoms including the sudden development of a swollen, hot, and tender joint in the feet, ankles, wrists, or knees. The majority of people have their first attack in the great toe.

This inflammation develops as a result of uric acid accumulation around the joints. Uric acid forms when chemicals, called purines, are broken down. Purines are found in the tissues of our body and in certain types of foods.

Heredity, diet, certain medical conditions, and medication usage can all contribute to the development of gout.
