Marfans Syndrome

Marfan's syndrome is a congenital hereditary multisystem growth disorder caused by the failure to produce normal collagen. The most commonly affected areas involved are the bones, the cardiovascular system and the eyes. Mental status is normal.
Clinical Presentation
The patients are tall, usually over 6 feet in height. Typically their arm span may be greater than their height. They tend to be slender and have hypermobility of the joints. The hypermobility of the joints leads to collapse of the arch of the feet. They also may suffer knee and hip joint abnormalities.
Treatment of Foot Related Problems
Treatment is directed to the symptoms that the patient may present with. Treatment may include bracing of the joints, inserts for the shoes and possibly surgery.
