Achilles tendon injuries

Text

The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body. It connects the heel bone to the muscles in the back of the lower leg. When the Achilles tendon is overstressed, it can become injured.

Common injuries include tendonitis (swelling) and tendinosis (wearing out due to overuse). The Achilles tendon can also tear if it’s overstretched.
