Labral tears of the hip

Text

The labrum is soft tissue that helps the leg bone move easily in the hip socket. If the labrum tears, it can make moving the hip difficult. Certain sports can cause tears. So can health conditions that make the hip move abnormally, like femoral-acetabular impingement.

Hip pain and stiffness are signs of a labral tear. You might also notice a clicking feeling in your hip when you move. Or you may have no symptoms at all. Treatment includes physical therapy, medications, cortisone shots and arthroscopic surgery.
