Broken collarbone

Text

A broken collarbone is a common injury, especially in children and athletes. It’s often caused by falls and sports injuries. Symptoms include pain, stiffness, bruising and swelling. You might also feel a grinding sensation when trying to move your arm.

Rest and pain medications can help reduce pain and swelling. It’s also important to limit movement by wearing an arm sling or brace. If the bones are displaced or broken in several places, surgery may be needed.
